INSPIRATIONAL! MUST SEE: Young music business professionals in Nigeria and Nashville recording artist, Tony Memmel, work together across the world on a large scale songwriting project. We’ve never met outside of Zoom, but through amazing, modern technology, I assembled hundreds of recordings and videos from microphones and mobile phones to produce the project. This is what we created. So much love to these amazing EARTHSHAKERS!
R E S I L I E N C E : On March 2nd, I began a 2-week songwriting residency at Dodson Elementary in Nashville, TN. We set out to create a brand new song with the entire school. The students and I wrote the chorus on day one: “I’ll Be the Bright, Bright Light,” a song about courage, kindness, joy, and strength.
That night, the #NashvilleTornado hit the Dodson community hard. Dozens of families lost their homes or were displaced. School was closed for the remainder of the week.
The following week, we picked up where we left off, knowing that we had important work to do: we had to finish this song.
Three days later, COVID-19 had reached the county, and schools were closed indefinitely.
For the past several weeks, I have been coordinating with the music teacher, Tracy Roberts, and working to complete the song that these students poured their hearts into.
This WEDNESDAY, MAY 13th at 3:00pm CST, I’ll be taking over the Music Makes Us Facebook page for a LIVE concert and assembly, and we will have the WORLD PREMIERE of our song, “Bright, Bright Light.”
Please join us as we debut this incredible project. Can’t wait to share this with you!

This month, I had the joy of being a guest at Muscular Dystrophy Association Camp in Burlington, WI. During our time together, the campers and I worked on writing a song about our time at MDA Camp. I recorded the students’ voices (heard here), then brought those tracks to my studio in TN, where I recorded the rest of the arrangement.
I wrote this song for my son, Theo, before he was born. Lesleigh and I decided not to find out our baby’s gender – we wanted to be surprised! It was a season of excitement, mystery, and eager anticipation of meeting our little one. We didn’t know much about our baby, but we did know these things…
– our baby would “dance”/kick every time we played music (rock, old country, Irish… the list goes on!)… and sometimes into the wee hours of the morning!
– We had a boy name and a girl name picked out
– We had one photograph: our ultrasound photo
The day after we got our first ultrasound, we closed on the sale of our very first house! The first piece of artwork to go up in our new home was the black and white ultrasound photo. We taped it on the wall of the empty bedroom that would soon be our baby’s nursery. Every day, we’d find ourselves in that room, just staring at the photo, imagining what this little one would be like. And that’s all we had to go on until our due date in Fall of 2018…
This song is for our beautiful boy, Theo. We love you so!
MUST SEE!! We toured the 1800+ year old, 6,000-seat Roman Theatre in Amman, Jordan, and brought some instruments along to play. FUN ENSUED! When we started playing, a group of people in the distance started clapping, and joined us for a singalong!
Here’s our NEW SONG, “Never, Never, Never Gonna Give Up (Anthem)” – thank you for listening, watching, and sharing!
EXCITING NEWS!! We released a BRAND NEW ALBUM today!

I co-wrote this piece with the students at Huntley Elementary School in Appleton, WI, during my recent Artist Residency there.
After brainstorming music and lyric concepts to speak into the city-wide Dignity and Respect campaign that’s currently underway, this is the song we created.
From first idea to completion, I worked with every single class to finish our piece in just four school days. It was so much fun to write with the eager, bright young people at Huntley Elementary School.
I recorded the students’ voices (heard here) during the final assembly and WORLD DEBUT of the song, then brought those tracks to my studio in TN, where I recorded the rest of the arrangement.
Thank you for liking, and sharing!
